Founded by AJ Davidsen - educator, musician, and youth mountain bike coach based in Star, Idaho. With a background in teaching kids of all ages, AJ is passionate about helping students build confidence, skills, and a lifelong love of learning — whether that’s through music or on the trail. His coaching style emphasizes safety, encouragement, and fun, creating an environment where every rider can grow at their own pace.
Open Trail Cycling offers several opportunities for youth to learn and develop mountain biking skills and fitness.
Homeschool Mountain Biking: January 23-May 22, 2026
This winter/spring session will focus on beginner skills and progression, with alternative mechanic workshops in case of inclement weather. Most classes will be held at Eagle Bike Park
Summer Camps: June-July
June 1-4, 8:30am-12:00pm - Intro To Mountain Biking: Sold Out
Designed for kids that know how to bike but have not ridden trails, or are very new to trail riding. Riders will build confidence while learning the fundamentals of mountain biking, including body position, braking, cornering and trail safety.
June 15-18, 8:30am-12:00pm - Trail Ready Camp: Sold Out
Designed for riders who are not brand new to mountain biking but are still developing their skills. At least one season of riding experience is recommended. Riders will focus on refining braking, cornering, pumping, climbing, descending, line choice, and bike control while applying those skills on longer trail rides to build confidence, endurance, and efficiency.
July 6-9, 8:30am-12:00pm - Flow & Air Camp - Sold Out
July 20-23, 8:30am-12:00pm - Flow & Air Camp: Designed for strong intermediate riders, this camp builds on core mountain bike skills such as braking, cornering, pumping, climbing, descending, and line choice, while introducing riders to small trail features in a safe, controlled, and confidence-building environment. Riders will learn proper technique for tabletop jumps (1–2 bike lengths) and beginner drops, with a strong emphasis on progression, body position, and knowing when they are ready. This is a great opportunity for riders who are eager to get their wheels off the ground—and do it the right way. Riders in this group must be confident on trails and ready for long, steady climbs. As a gauge of readiness, they should be able to ride all the way up the gravel road from the skills park to the water tower without stopping or walking.
