To ensure every rider has a safe, fun, and successful experience, please review the required and recommended equipment below. Having the right gear helps kids stay comfortable, confident, and ready to learn.
*Students cannot ride without the following items*
Each rider must bring a safe, properly functioning bike.
Bike type:
Mountain bike or sturdy hybrid bike
Hand brakes required (no coaster brakes)
Bike condition:
Brakes work smoothly and stop the bike effectively
Tires are in good condition and hold air
Chain is lubricated and shifts smoothly
Seat height allows rider to pedal comfortably
❗ Bikes with significant mechanical issues will not be allowed to ride for safety reasons.
A properly fitted helmet is required at all times while riding
Must meet CPSC safety standards
Helmet should sit level on the head and not rock side to side
🚫 No helmet = no riding
Closed-toe athletic shoes (sneakers or flat-soled bike shoes)
Comfortable athletic clothing that allows full movement
Clothing appropriate for the day’s weather
Winter gloves with fingers so riders can access brakes
Hat that fits comfortably under helmet
Warm layers that are not too bulky
Please avoid:
Sandals or Crocs
Loose scarves or dangling accessories
Water bottle or hydration pack
Riders should arrive hydrated and ready to ride
These items improve comfort, control, and confidence
Bike gloves (protect hands and improve grip)
Eye protection (sunglasses or clear lenses)
Padded bike shorts or liners
Sunscreen
As riders progress, we encourage them to bring:
Spare tube that fits their bike
Tire levers
Small pump or CO₂ inflator
We’re happy to help! If you have questions about equipment, bike sizing, or setup, feel free to reach out before the first class.
