The Trailblazers mountain bike skills program is designed with older students in mind. We still focus on developing confidence, control, safety awareness, and a love for riding trails but ride at a slightly higher pace. Age recommendations are flexible and we will try to accommodate family and individual needs.Β
Riders work in groups of up to 8, and all activities prioritize safety, encouragement, and positive growth. Parents that are interested in riding can help coach, but must attend our in-person coach training and complete a background check.
Throughout the session, riders will learn and practice:
Bike safety and trail etiquette
Braking, shifting, and balance
Cornering, climbing, and descending
Riding over roots, rocks, and small obstacles
Group riding skills and communication
Basic bike care and trail-side preparedness
(Skills build progressively, with time for review and confidence-building)

Fixing a flat (hands-on)
Chain care and lubrication
Brake check and adjustment overview
Pre-ride safety checks (ABC)
What to bring on every ride
These sessions are hands-on, age-appropriate, and engaging, and count as a full class.
Parents will be notified ahead of time if a weather backup plan is in effect.
Each rider must bring:
A functioning mountain bikeΒ
Properly fitted helmetΒ
Closed-toe shoes
Water bottle
Weather-appropriate clothing
Certified instruction with age-appropriate progression
Clear group riding rules and communication
Emphasis on encouragement, not pressure
No rider is required to attempt a feature they are uncomfortable with
By the end of the session, riders will: Feel confident riding trails. Understand how to care for their bike. Ride safely with others. Associate mountain biking with fun, success, and adventure
